About me:

My name is Leandro Recova, and I am a PhD student in Applied Mathematics at CGU. I have interests in all aspects of applied mathematics that involve partial differential equations. I am currently working with Calculus of Variations with Dr. Adolfo Rumbos at Pomona College. We have interests in Morse Theory and Variational Methods applied to semi-elliptic problems. I am married and I have an 8-years old daughter, Bianca. I graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1997 from University of Brasilia in Brazil. My final project was about the study of the dynamics and inverse cinematic of a robot called Rhino XR-4. It was my first contact with Calculus of Variations. I was advised by Dr, Victor Casanova, an excellent teacher in Control Theory. I followed my studies in a master degree program in Differential Geometry at the same university where I had a chance to work with Dr. Keti Tenenblat who inspired me to pursue my studies in mathematics. My master’s dissertation was about the paper Foliations on constant curvature surfaces and nonlinear partial differential equations, a beautiful work of Professor H. Wu. My first experience as a teacher of Calculus was at the Instituto de Ensino Superior de Brasilia, Brasilia, Brazil. I taught Calculus I for one semester before coming to California.

I came to USA in 2001 to work as an engineer in Walnut, California. The company sponsored my graduate studies at Cal Poly Pomona, where I was introduced to the beautiful algorithm of JPEG-2000. It was my first contact with Wavelets and Error Coding theory and I wrote a final thesis about the implementation of the JPEG-2000 Core 1 algorithm in MATLAB under the supervision of Dr. James Kang. I am currently a part-time student at CGU and I also work as a Radio-Frequency Engineer in a wireless company in Irvine, California.

CGU is a great place to study with a great friendly environment.
